Using a pillow for breastfeeding - 3 positions to try
When choosing a pregnancy pillow, choose one that can also support your breastfeeding journey. So many of my clients already have asked me what breastfeeding pillow I recommend, and I always say to use pillows that work to support your body so that you can then support your baby. Here are a few ways you can use a breastfeeding pillow to support breastfeeding comfort for you and your baby.
Side-lying: it’s important to continue pelvic support even when you aren’t pregnant anymore. A pillow can support mum's hips and gently hold baby in place. Having a pillow under the head for tailored support.
Reclined breastfeeding: Having a large firm pillow makes for great back support. Also, have a pillow handy for your arm that is holding your baby and then for the baby’s feet - it is important that their feet are contacting a supportive surface.
Underarm hold: this position requires good pillows, a long and firm pillow makes an excellent support for mum's arm and helps to support the weight of your baby’s body.
Having pillows that fits to and supports your unique body is the best way to go. Feeling supported with the right furniture and pillows will help you feel more at ease in your breastfeeding journey, particularly when you are spending so much time breastfeeding in those early days.
